Sundance moves to Boulder for 2027, and the best transportation plan for most of the festival is the one the city recommends: park once and use transit between venues. Where a private luxury van still earns its place is everything around the screenings. Airport arrivals, luggage, hotel transfers, off-site dinners and keeping a client group together are where one well-equipped van does the most work.
The 2027 dates that shape your plan
The Sundance Institute's 2027 festival announcement confirms the festival runs January 21 to 31, 2027 in Boulder, Colorado. According to Sundance's guide to what to know about 2027, world premieres are scheduled from Thursday, January 21, through Tuesday, January 26, and the annual festival gala is on Friday, January 22.
That front-loaded schedule matters for groups. If your visit centers on premieres, most of your arrivals, check-ins and hosted dinners will fall in the first six days.
Schedules, venues and transportation guidance can change before and during the festival. Recheck the official Sundance, City of Boulder and RTD pages shortly before you travel and again on arrival.
Why you should not plan to drive between venues
Sundance says its 2027 venues are all within about a 2-mile radius. The City of Boulder's festival transportation page describes the festival as a park-once experience and recommends transit as the quickest and most convenient way to get around, with destinations a short bus ride, roll or stroll away.
So this guide does not recommend using a private van to hop between screenings. We have no information about festival parking, curbside access, drop-off zones or vehicle credentials, and you should not assume any exist for private vehicles. Follow the city's guidance during festival hours.
Where one luxury van does help
1. Denver airport arrivals
The City of Boulder notes that Boulder is about 45 minutes from Denver International Airport and recommends RTD airport coach service for visitors. Transit is a solid option for individuals. For a family, a production team or a group of clients arriving together with luggage and equipment cases, a private van keeps everyone and everything in one place on the drive in.
2. Hotel transfers and lodging outside the core
Visit Boulder's festival FAQ notes hotel rooms spread across a ten-mile radius of the festival footprint and beyond. If your group is split between properties or staying outside the city, a van simplifies check-in day and departures.
3. Off-site dinners and client hosting
Many hosted evenings happen away from the venues. A quiet cabin with comfortable seating gives you a private space to talk on the way to and from dinner, without coordinating several rideshares.
4. Keeping a group together
Before and after screenings, the hardest logistics problem is often regrouping. A van that collects everyone at a planned meeting point outside the core area, once the day's festival plans are finished, removes a lot of texting and waiting.
A simple split: transit inside, van outside
| Trip | Better fit | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Venue to venue | Transit, walking or biking | Venues are close together and the city recommends park once |
| Denver airport to Boulder | Private van for groups with luggage | One vehicle for people and bags |
| Hotel to hotel or outlying lodging | Private van | Fewer separate rides to coordinate |
| Off-site dinners and client events | Private van | Private, comfortable space to talk |
| Arriving from Denver for a day | Transit or park once | RTD's Sundance page describes enhanced service for the festival |
Honest tradeoffs
A luxury van is a large vehicle, and winter weather in the Front Range can affect road conditions. Owning one makes the most sense when you travel with groups more than once a year, not for a single festival. If Sundance is your only trip, transit plus rideshares may be the more practical choice.
