Most buyers spend their inspection time in the passenger lounge, but if you will drive the van yourself, the cab is where you will spend every mile. This Short from Dufourfun RV & Luxury Vans shows a black Mercedes-Benz Sprinter on a gravel lot, a cream quilted front seat, and matching-toned captain's chairs in the rear cabin. Who should care most
This matters for owner-drivers: people who will take the wheel for family trips or business travel rather than hire a driver. If someone else will always drive, the passenger cabin deserves more of your attention. If you will drive, give the front seats the same scrutiny.
Decorative upholstery is not a feature list
Quilting and stitching tell you how a seat looks, not what it does. Do not assume a front seat has power adjustment, heating, swivel or any other function because it matches a custom cabin. Ask the seller to demonstrate every adjustment and control the seat actually has, and compare that with the original equipment.
Inspect the wear points
Look closely at the outer bolster you slide across when getting in, since it takes the most wear. Check seams, piping and the transition between the seat and its trim. Make sure the front and rear surfaces are consistent in color and condition, which can hint at whether parts were redone at different times.
Sit in it as the driver
While parked, have the usual driver set the seat and mirrors, check reach to the wheel and pedals, and look over the hood and through the mirrors. A seat that looks great but sits too high or too firm for that person is a real tradeoff on long days.
Ask what was retrimmed and get records
Ask whether the front seats were retrimmed, who did the work and when, and request invoices rather than verbal assurances. Ask what the material actually is and for written care instructions, since cleanability depends on that answer. If seat covers or retrimming involved airbag-equipped seats, ask how compatibility was handled and get documentation.
